EA and developer Ghost Games have both confirmed that a new Need for Speed is coming this year, but otherwise it remains a mystery. It will absolutely have cars, though. That much Ghost Games has admitted. But what else? It looks like we'll find out in a couple of days, judging by this faintly ominous countdown. The countdown will end on August 14, no doubt the pre-Gamescom reveal that EA CEO Andrew Wilson mentioned in an earnings call in July. Expect to see a bit more of it next week, then, once Gamescom begins. body .hawk-widget{--trd-blue:#2f6e91;width:100%;letter-spacing:normal;}._hawk.subtitle~.hawk-widget[data-widget-type=price]{margin:16px 0;}@media (min-width:600px){._hawk.subtitle~.hawk-widget[data-widget-type=price]{margin:0;min-height:128px;float:right;clear:none;width:50%;}.fancy_box_body ._hawk.subtitle~.hawk-widget[data-widget-type=price]{float:none;width:100%;}}.icon~.hawk-widget{clear:both;}@media (min-width:400px){body .buyingguide .product .hawk-widget.bg-price{float:right;width:40%;}}Australian retailer Gameware had a listing, now vanished, for Need for Speed: Heat, though the name is yet to be confirmed. Back in May, Ghost Games also shared what it thought was most important to the series and its fans, hinting at the focus for the latest entry. "Cars naturally top the list. You could say that the cars and customization of NFS are the beating heart of what we do. Without either of these, NFS fails to exist as we know it. These two elements play a pivotal role in the series and are two aspects that we consider to be foundational, meaning they aren’t going anywhere because NFS wouldn’t exist without them." Keep your eyes peeled on Wednesday for more details.
A countdown timer has appeared on the official Need For Speed website, signalling an official reveal this Wednesday.
EA have revealed that they'll be unveiling the next chapter of the Need For Speed series at Gamescom in a few weeks.
EA has a brand new Need for Speed game due out by Christmas, and you won't have long to wait to see it. After no-showing at E3 this year in June, the untitled Need for Speed racer will finally make its debut "heading into Gamescom in a few weeks", EA told investors last night. It's a late reveal for a game due out this year, and an uncharacteristically short marketing campaign before the game lands on shop shelves in time for the big end-of-year sales season. Read more
Electronic Arts has confirmed, in a call with investors and analysts wrapping Q1 FY 2019 up, that the next title in the Need for Speed series will be revealed at Gamescom, the event which is set to be held in Koln, Germany, from August 20 to 24.
The new Plants Vs. Zombies shooter will be released by the end of the year, too.
This year's Need for Speed title has leaked.
Electronic Arts has been very coy about what's coming next for the long-running Need for Speed driving series, but it seems likely that we'll be hearing more about it in the near future. The company confirmed in its first quarter financial results for the 2020 fiscal year that a new Need for Speed game will be out sometime between October 1 and the end of the year, and while it didn't reveal the subtitle, Austrian retailer Gameware may have. The listing, via IGN, is for something called Need for Speed: Heat; the entry isn't accessible through the search anymore, but for now at least, the URL is still live. The title (and probably the release timing) will be officially revealed at Gamescom, which runs August 20-24 in Cologne, Germany. Need for Speed developer Ghost Games said in a May update that "the next time we talk, we’ll be packing our bags and heading south for the full unveiling" (Ghost Games is based in Gothenburg, Sweden, and it's a pretty straight shot south from there to Cologne), and EA CEO Andrew Wilson confirmed during today's earnings call that the new game will be revealed for Gamescom. body .hawk-widget{--trd-blue:#2f6e91;width:100%;letter-spacing:normal;}._hawk.subtitle~.hawk-widget[data-widget-type=price]{margin:16px 0;}@media (min-width:600px){._hawk.subtitle~.hawk-widget[data-widget-type=price]{margin:0;min-height:128px;float:right;clear:none;width:50%;}.fancy_box_body ._hawk.subtitle~.hawk-widget[data-widget-type=price]{float:none;width:100%;}}.icon~.hawk-widget{clear:both;}@media (min-width:400px){body .buyingguide .product .hawk-widget.bg-price{float:right;width:40%;}}EA also said in its financial report that a new Plants vs. Zombies game is coming to PC in the same window. Plants vs Zombies 3 was announced earlier this month, but EA confirmed at the time that it's strictly for mobile devices. This PvZ will be a shooter, Wilson said during the earnings call, presumably a new addition to the Garden Warfare spinoff series: Eurogamer reported earlier this month that an alpha test for the new game, codenamed Picnic, is set to get underway on August 1.
